Mom to Mom is a Christ-based,
non-profit, tax-exempt organization focused on providing informational and emotional support to moms and their families with
young children with special needs.
Mom to Mom began with a
little preemie named Nia, who was given a "wait and see" diagnosis by her doctors. With a need for answers to questions, countless
hours were spent on "research". Mom to Mom hopes to make this "research" to questions about baby's diagnosis an easier
one for moms and their families.
At our site parents can
research questions such as . . . "What is the tiny light strapped to the baby's toe?". . ."What exactly does the Gastroenterologist
do?". . . "Where do I find support groups tailored to my baby's diagnosis?" and "Where can I find equipment when insurance
does not fully cover it?" Our hope is that moms and their families will have the resources they need to make each moment of
baby's new life a positive experience.
Mom to Mom was founded by
Tracy James in order to help parents not only find the answers to their many unanswered questions but to also help parents
find emotional support from those that have “been there”. Mom to
Mom has spent the past 6 years working closely with local Houston area NICU’s , providing Welcome Baby gifts and brochures
featuring information on NICU equipment, NICU doctors/ staff , helpful websites and resources.
In 2003, Mom to Mom began
a Parent Resource Hotline and provided information on everything from special needs home school information to help finding
funding resources for burials.
In 2007, a mother of a three year old explained that she was desperate for another mom who “understood”,
Mom to Mom began a 2-5 year old Special Needs Playgroup that would enable moms to bring their children with them as parents
share and encourage each other.
In 2009, Mom to Mom’s
goal is to offer a series of educational seminars and classes that will touch upon issues
specific to the parenting of children with special needs, classes such as Special Needs Infant CPR, potty training
techniques and picky eating issues.
